Divorce FAQs

What is the Average Cost of a Divorce in Utah?

We wish we had a crystal ball and could predict exactly how much a divorce is going to cost our clients. However, we do not. Therefore, we offer a unique alternative to traditional hourly billing that most firms in Utah do not offer to clients. We have flat fees associated for every step of your case and initial retainers starting anywhere from $5,000.00 to $10,000.00 or more depending on the complexity of your case.

How Long Does a Divorce Take in Utah?

Utah law requires 30 days between the date the Petition is filed and the date the Decree is signed. An uncontested divorce in Utah takes an average of two to three months to complete, while a contentious divorce may take nine months or longer.

How to Start the Divorce Process

Starting the divorce process begins with filing the Divorce Petition at the Utah District Court of the county where you live. After filing the paperwork and paying the fee, you will need to provide notice of the Divorce to your spouse by serving copies of what was filed with the Court. Under Utah law, Judges can’t hold a hearing to grant a Divorce Decree until at least 30 days after filing the Divorce Petition. An experienced Utah divorce attorney can help you begin the process.
